Luis Manzano to run for mayor of Lipa?
MANILA, Philippines - Actor and television host Luis Manzano revealed on Saturday that the thought of running for public office has recently crossed his mind.
On the set of ABS-CBN’s “E-Live,” Manzano announced that he is actually considering the idea of running for the Lipa City mayor post in the upcoming 2013 election.
“May mga nag-iimbita po sa akin na tumakbo nga na mayor ng Lipa. Ang sa akin, hindi ko po sinasara ang sarili ko sa politika,” he said.
Manzano admitted that a big part of him is longing for public service.
He stressed, “Sa akin, iba ang pagpapasaya kapag kunwari may lumapit sayo [at nagsabing, ‘Luis napatawa mo ako sa hosting mo,’ o ‘napaiyak mo ako sa pelikula’ at lahat, pero iba rin kapag nakakatulong ka sa kabuhayan talaga ng isang tao.”
However, no matter how close politics is to his heart, Manzano said that he still wants to carefully think through this before giving out a final answer.
“Pero [sa ngayon]hindi pa po sigurado [kung tatakbo ako]. Hindi pa po ako sure dahil marami pa po akong kailangang gawin,” he said.
“Ang sa akin, kung saka-sakali lang na tatakbo ako bilang mayor, gusto ko po ibigay ang 110 percent ng time ko dahil the moment na hindi [ko] po [‘yon mabigay], magiging unfair po ako sa mga Lipaeño (the citizens of Lipa).”
When asked whether he has already talked this plan over with his mother Batangas Governor Vilma Santos, on the other hand, Manzano merely replied with a joke.
“Well, binigyan ko ng choice si mommy. Sabi ko, it’s either tatakbo ako bilang mayor, or lalabanan ko siya bilang gobernador.”
